Found this little guy palying around!

These photos were taken in Laurel, MS, at a local park. I just love to watch these guys scurry around gathering food for the winter or just munching away. This paticular squirrel is a Gray Squirrel, define by Webster as, "A common light gray to black squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) that is native to eastern North America and has been introduced into Great Britain and South Africa."

My wife giggle like a school girl when she saw this one. He commented on how fat he was. Poor little fellow can't help it, I explained that he was preparing for a long winter!

The do know how to jump and run!

I thought that it was funny that these guys never got in the direct sunlight. I assume that the are trying to blend and stay out of the heat. It was 100 degrees when this was snapped.

Can you see him now? He got spooked by a nearby dog. He seems pretty adapt to blending into his enviroment which is his main defense against most preditors. Well, I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!

I noticed the same thing "the Birdlady" did....that second little rascal could feed several grown people!

I love the squirrels. I could sit here watching them eat and play all day. Wouldn't get much accomplished around the house though!

Michael: I agree with Helen, that second picture has one fat squirrel.

That second bushy tail could have a caption. "Do I want to fish or not?"
I have not had the same sense of wonder about these little guys since two came down the chimney at the cabin at the lake. They were just trying to get back out but they sure made a mess. Peace and try to stay Cool.

They turned out really well! Glad I'm not the only one who compared the little "fatty," to Gus the mouse from Cinderella! LOL

I remember the first time I came in contact with a squirrel was in London when the little critter just sat in front of me. The closest we come to a squirrel in Australia is probably a possum. I was watching Attenborough's "Mammals" last night and he was talking about beaver and prairie dogs. They all delight me.

The second squirrel is carrying a bag of nuts.

Greetings from Juneau, Alaska!

Last week my husband was out pulling weeds, in the backyard, when a very young red squirrel crawled under his legs. My husband had no clue it was there until I said, "Honey, look down!" My husband and the little squirrel spent a few minutes chattering away to one another. It was so adorable. I wish I had my camera.

Thanks for visiting Juneau Daily Photo!:)

I love chasing those guys but they are so much faster than me, they can almost fly!

Hi! That second picture is priceless. What a chubby little one. This may sound stupid, but it kinda looks like he/she is holding a fishing pole. Fishing for acorns. By the looks of him/her, doing a fine job of it. Lisa

Aren't squirrels just the cutest!

I love to sit and watch the ones who come and eat the bird seed from under the feeder. I have two to three regular guests most days.

Thanks for visiting today.

I know a lot of people think squirrels are rodents but I think they're cute. Love the cubby guy lol. On the Common in Boston they're so friendly they'll come right up to you for a bite to eat.

I just love squirrels. Here we don't have them. I saw them once on holiday in Belgium nibbling on our rubbish bags
