According to Wiki, "The sunset is often more brightly colored than the sunrise, with the shades of red and orange being more vibrant. The atmosphere responds in a number of ways to exposure to the sun during daylight hours. In particular, there tends to be more dust in the lower atmosphere at the end of the day than at the beginning. During the day, the sun heats the surface of the Earth, lowering the relative humidity and increasing wind speed and turbulence, which serves to lift dust into the air. However, differences between sunrise and sunset may in some cases depend more on the particular geographical features of the location from which they are viewed. For example, on a west-facing coastline, sunset occurs over water while sunrise occurs over land.

This was a shot of the moon taken about two hours later!

Hope you like the progression that took place over about a ten minute time span! It was brillant to see.

I took these last night at work.

Nice shots of the sun and moon. I haven't caught a good sunset pic for quite a while. Whenever I see one, I don't have the camera with me. Par for the course for me! LOL

Those pics are sometimes very hard to get right. I have not had much success in capturing the night sky and attendant lights with my little camera. Good job. Pappy

Lovely photos...

Thank you for commenting in one of my blogs.

And you do woodworking! My husband has been enjoying all sorts of woodworking, since he was a kid. He'd love it if I got into it too. But, so far, I haven't tried it. :-)

Glad you caught the bad guy. Also glad you could spare a few minutes to capture the sun and moon. Your pictures are truly lovely. I hope someday you can realize your dream of full time photography. You are definately good enough.

Beautiful shots. Funny I posted a sunset picture just now from yesterday before I came over and see you did too. being on the east coast I don't get to see sunrise on the water, just reflected. Maybe sometime I'll get out west. But still makes for a beautiful sight. To answer your question..I'm not very familiar with Maine except having gone to York, Maine in the southern part of the state. It's on the coast and lends itself to some very interesting photo opportunities no matter the season. Are you flying into Boston, then driving from there? Spending any time in Boston. If so the Public Gardens are beautiful.

I've always found sunsets difficult to capture fully. You've done a wonderful job. Thank you for sharing those.

I'm an idiot about the sky--can't get enough. Love progressive pictures. Where I live I just thought there were more nice sunsets than sunrises because there usually are not clouds in the morning. I get all excited when we have a beautiful sunrise, which we did today.

I love the progession too!

I don't think I've ever seen a red moon in person. Or maybe I did and thought it was the sun ;)

My photo this week is of the moon rising over the hills where I live in Connecticut but I don't think it's anywhere near as nice as the shots you have here. Lovely!
